Serious Things Said In Jest

As a playwright, I use storytelling to illuminate the people and perspectives we often overlook — the panhandler on the corner, the aging body navigating a youth-obsessed world, the quiet ways racism persists in so-called progressive spaces. My work lives at the intersection of comedy and social commentary. Humor, for me, is not just a tool to entertain — it’s a bridge. It disarms, invites, and creates space for conversations that might otherwise feel too heavy or too far removed.

I’m drawn to stories that challenge dominant narratives and offer audiences a chance to sit with discomfort — especially when that audience might not see themselves reflected in the communities onstage. I often write with a mainstream audience in mind, aiming to spark reflection and recognition around issues like race, class, and power.

My goal isn’t to offer easy answers. I aim to create work that lingers — that causes a laugh to catch in the throat, a moment of pause on the way out of the theater. I want to stir empathy, shift perspectives, and make space for voices too often pushed to the margins.
